Leadership at Citi Cards extends to how we perform as a citizen of the many communities that are home to our businesses and employees.
We believe, first, that being a responsible citizen is simply the right thing to do. We have proven, over many years of experience, that
it is also good business.
The Cards business takes responsibility in our communities in many ways, beginning with how we operate our business, and extending through
encouraging employee volunteerism, direct financial support, and active personal and institutional involvement in organizations and programs
of all kinds. In every location, we adhere to the same high standards of ethics, fair lending and fair access to financial services, customer
privacy, diversity in hiring, and cultural and environmental sensitivity. Our employees volunteer across the spectrum of charitable and
community activities. In addition to funding, we provide management of skills, business and financial expertise, and leadership that bring
success to community-based programs. Ultimately it is our employees who have made us successful.
We know that business success must go hand-in-hand with support for the community. That's why we actively support a diverse range of programs
that are designed to enhance the well being and environment of all people through all of our sites. Some of the activities the Cards businesses
participate in are:
- Habitat for Humanity - Citi Cards employees participate in this effort to eliminate substandard housing by building houses in partnership
with people in need. The organization is supported through corporate and private donations, volunteers, and donated building supplies.
- "Teach the Children to Save" - Citi Cards sponsors this national initiative that teaches young children about the value of money and saving
for the future. Many employees visit classrooms around the country and speak about the value of saving money, answer questions, and conduct
related activities with the children.
- Junior Achievement - Junior Achievement is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to educate and inspire young people to value free
enterprise, business, and economics in order to improve the quality of their lives. The Cards businesses partner with Junior Achievement by
providing volunteers to teach classes in local elementary, junior high, and high schools.
- WalkAmerica (March of Dimes) - The WalkAmerica is the first, the biggest, and the best walking event in the nation. Citi Cards employees
across the sites participate in this walking event in high volume every year. Over the years it has raised nearly $1 billion to support the
March of Dimes mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality -- a mission that it has been dedicated
to for over 60 years.
- Partners in Education - Partners in Education is a Chamber of Commerce activity created to bring business and education closer. Some Cards
sites contribute financial and human resources to the program. Employees act as reading volunteers for classrooms, host career days, and mentor
students.
- United Way - The Cards' sites consistently raise money for the local area United Way. Through a vast network of volunteers and community
service agencies, United Way organizations throughout America help meet the health and human-care needs of millions of people every day. To help raise money,
employees are involved in a variety of activities ranging from bake sales; car washes, and book sales to "fair share" contributions.
- Mobile Meals Programs - Employees spend their lunch hour delivering prepared hot and cold meals to individuals in the area who are unable
to go out or prepare meals for themselves.
- Project Linus - Employees contribute blankets to provide security and warmth to seriously ill and/or traumatized children.
