As world financial markets become increasingly linked, the ability to deliver 24-hour, real-time information and execution of transactions through our computer systems and telecommunications networks worldwide is critical. Each year we allocate significant resources to the development, enhancement and operation of our information systems, further raising our productivity and competitiveness in an increasingly fast-paced financial world.

Technology teams work with our business to design the architecture of our global applications and databases, as well as maintaining our internal and external communications and websites. This makes our group an exciting and lively organisation to work in. Working with the world’s leading computer and software companies to develop new competencies and adapting the latest products and services means our people are involved with leading-edge, breakthrough technologies. The breadth of technologies we work with is impressive in its diversity. We use the right tool for the right job, including C++, Java, J2EE, .Net, C#, Rendezvous & Corba. We follow a structured development model and our team has the benefit of being exposed to the full development life cycle.

As the enabling force behind all the businesses in Markets & Banking, the technology group supports all areas from multi-million dollar international trades to individual investors’ portfolios. The challenges facing technology are constant and ever changing, something that is compounded exponentially when you consider the global scale of our company. Our customers include every business throughout Markets & Banking UK. Our relationships with each are close and wide-ranging, and involve dealing with people at every level of the company, from the Chief Executive to individual traders.

The main European location for technology is our European HQ at Citi Centre, Canary Wharf, London. In addition to London we have technology offices in a number of cities including Frankfurt, Dublin and Belfast.

In order to meet these challenges Citi’s training programmes are among the best in the industry. We have a constant commitment to personal development at all levels. We have a dedicated Technology Training team who ensure that hundreds of classes are available for booking via the Training Website. The courses cover business, industry and product programmes, web-based training, technical and personal development courses. We aim to allow our technology staff to grow in their careers both technically and professionally. The appraisal and objective-setting process is embedded in the way we do business. In addition, our mobility programme supports the ability to transition within the organisation to continually develop skills.

For Leading Edge Technology

In December 2003, Equity Derivatives Technology (EQTG) won the award for "Most Innovative Trading or Operations System" at the 6th Annual Financial Innovation Awards, run by the Institute of Financial Services with the EQRMS system. EQRMS is the real-time risk management and profit/loss platform developed for the Equity Derivatives business in Europe. It provides traders with a customisable front-end reporting application fed by real-time model calculations and brings together many technologies and solutions. Over 50 institutions, including Barclays, Credit Agricole, Credit Lyonnais, HSBC and JPMorgan Chase, competed for the seventeen awards.
